For years, Southland Academy football has been chasing Deerfield-Windsor. So when the Golden Raiders needed a new football coach after Tim Goodin resigned, they looked to the Deerfield sidelines and hired Rod Murray.
Murray has been the Knights' defensive coordinator for ten years and the head baseball coach for seven. He said he has learned a lot under head football coach Allen Lowe. The two have won three state championships together.
Murray will stay on at Deerfield throughout the baseball season. After the school year is out, he'll turn his attention to Southland football.
"We're gonna design stuff based on playing good, solid defense, controlling the clock," Murray said. "Get the kids to play hard for 48 minutes, and see what happens."
