The leaders and the force of the Monroe football team have found a college football home. Like working on the defensive line, Hakeem Porter and Cortez Banks, have done it together.
A possibility that developed over the last few weeks, Banks and Porter signed scholarships with Louisburg Junior College on Wednesday.
Considered the productive and positive leaders for the 2012 Tornado team, their connection will extend at least another two years to another set of football players.
The college roommates can also push a little on each other, as well.
"It's just a lineman thing. Both of us played defensive tackle. We already close as ever. I just always know I'm going to have Cortez right there with me," Porter said.
"I have somebody who I've already bonded with as a teammate and as a personal friend. Someone who has been with me through my ups and downs," Banks said.
Porter was a three-year all-region offensive lineman for Monroe. While Banks, from the defensive tackle position, led the team in sacks with 10. Five of the ten Monroe football seniors have signed college football scholarships.
