Monroe High School is gearing up for another season on the grid iron with Head Coach Charles Truitt leading the team.
Last year, the Tornadoes finished the year with a winning record of 8-4 and a playoff berth, but falling short to the state championship game by losing in the second round to Burke County High School.
This year the goal is the same for the Tornadoes, but with a younger squad and some new faces on the field.
"We have mostly young guys this year, but that leaves room for others to step up" says Coach Truitt.
Last year, they opened the season against region rival Brooks County and fell short of a victory because of a last minute play.
The Tornadoes haven't forgotten about the loss and will open against them once again this year.
"Brooks won on a last second playâ|they are a good teamâ|and we use the Brooks game as a measuring tool while getting a great chance to see what we have in the region" says Truitt.
The opener is set for August 30 with a 7:30 PM kickoff time.
