The Mitchell County girls and Turner County boys had great seasons. They just came up a little bit short.
Randolph-Clay pounced on the Lady Eagles from the get-go in the 1-A state championship game on Thursday afternoon in Macon. Rosemary Sanders and Mitchell County made a couple runs, but the Lady Red Devils were too much in the end. The final score was 53-32.
The boys' game was a closer contest between Turner County and Wilkinson County. In both halves, Wilkinson made a run to take a big lead before the Rebels answered. Turner County had a chance to tie with five seconds remaining, but a turnover ended their state championship hopes. The Warriors made free throws to seal it, 72-64.
