Running one marathon is difficult. Finishing seven marathons on seven different continents is almost unbelievable.
But that's what Dr. Gordon Borkat did. He also had his son by his side for every race. They are the only father-son duo to run a marathon on each continent.
On Tuesday, Dr. Borkat shared his story in Albany at the Dougherty County Rotary Club meeting. He shared pictures and stories from his travels with family to Kenya, Antarctica, Maui, and more.
The idea was born in the late 1990's and began on January 1, 2000 in New Zealand. Dr. Borkat said the adventures were a blend of his passions: running, traveling, and family. But one aspect was more important than the rest.
"The highlight of the seven marathons is that we ran them all together," Borkat said.
