Westwood baseball is a GISA champion for the first time since 1988.
The Wildcats defeated Crisp Academy 12-11 in a see-saw, back and forth decisive game three for the GISA-A State Championship on Saturday.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Westwood batted around jumping on Crisp pitchers Jordan Howard and Rush Brown to take an 11-3 lead.
However, Crisp Academy didn't go down without a fight. The defending state champs started the day down 1-0 in the best of three series.
In game two, Crisp Academy mashed the Westwood pitching for a 15-6 victory. In the sixth inning of game three trailing 11-3, Crisp Academy chipped the deficit down to 11-8 before Westwood's Douglas Nobles showed his dominance again.
In the sixth, Nobles slammed a curve ball over the left field fence for a solo shot and a 12-8 Westwood lead. That homerun, the second of the day for Nobles, proved to be the winning run for Westwood.
In the seventh, Crisp Academy scored three runs and had the tying run on base before Nobles pitched out of the jam for the Westwood championship.
