Two local region champions will start the march toward a potential state championship on Friday night at home.
Lee County begins the 5A playoffs against Effingham County in Leesburg. Head coach Dean Fabrizio said his coaching staff has emphasized ball security and eliminating defensive lapses as they prepare for the playoffs.
Hopefully the home field advantage will help.
"Being able to host a playoff game in front of our fans and our community is something we're all excited about," Fabrizio said.
Westover starts the 4A playoffs with a Friday night date with Liberty County at Hugh Mills Stadium. After clinching the first region championship in school history a couple weeks ago, the Patriots have turned their focus toward making a run in the postseason.
"They're excited, they're hungry, and they want to have an opportunity to play for a state championship," said Westover head coach Octavia Jones.
