The death of 16-year-old Madison Stokes has hit the Lee County athletic community hard.
Not only was Stokes a junior at Lee County High School, but also a member of the Trojan Girl's soccer team- and she was a good one at that.
The defenseman was the grittiest player on the pitch, but one of the nicest off of it. Moving to the Lee County varsity squad halfway through her freshman year, Stokes played every minute in the 2012 season.
Trojans head soccer coach Dave Baltenberger says Stokes, always a friend to her peers, didn't have any enemies.
"Madison was just a really good kid...we're going to miss her a lot on the soccer team. She was one of those kids that did all of the right things at the right time. Worked hard...did everything she was supposed to do and we're really going to miss her," Coach Baltenberger said.
It's going to be an emotional year for the girl's soccer team. Baltenberger says a plan to honor Stokes is in the works for the 2013 season.
