Riflery doesn't get many headlines, but Lee County High School is paying attention to the sport this week.
The Trojans' riflery team is headed to the state finals this weekend in Fort Benning to compete against 14 other schools. Last year, Al Schuette's team finished 11th. They're hoping for better results this time around.
"I want to be in the top half of the teams this year," Schuette said.
Each team has four scorers and each of them shoots from three different positions â" lying down, kneeling, and standing. A perfect score is 1200, and lately the Trojans have been scoring in the 1100s. In other words, they're a threat on Saturday.
No matter what, Schuette and his kids are pleased with the season's progress.
"I've been really proud of them," Schuette said. "They have really improved over the year. They have been dedicated about working on it."
