Lee County Holds Home Field
Lee county baseball muscled their way to the top peg in AAAA-Region 1. On Friday, more muscle pushed the Trojans to the number one seed in the GHSA State Playoffs.
Lee County swept Northside Columbus in the best of three sub-region playoff series, 3-1 and 10-0. The Trojans will host round one of the state playoffs against Wayne County next weekend. The best of three series begins Friday with the "if" game on Saturday. Times for all three games are still to be determined.
The Trojans were sparked by the arm of Chris Mosely and the bat of Daniel Nichols. Mosely finished with a complete game, three-hitter striking out five batters in the first three innings.
Lee County missed out on several opportunities at the plate in the first and second, but Nichols sparked the Trojan scoring with a homerun in the third.
The UGA-signee, Nichols, pushed a two-run homer over the left field fence. Junior Andrew Stroud followed with a solo shot for the back-to-back homers. Senior Jess Posey almost completed the homerun trifecta settling for a double off the center field wall.
Lee County hosted a first round series in 2011 losing to Jones County in three games. Entering the playoffs, the Trojans have won eight of their last ten games.
