Lee County football embraces new region
They have a new field, a new quarterback, and they're in a new classification. Hopefully, change will be a good thing in Leesburg.
After winning ten games and the 5A-1 region championship in 2013, Lee County now moves in to 6A-1, where some of the state's top powerhouses reside. But they expect to compete right away.
"We're excited, it's just a whole other challenge," said senior linebacker Dextric Green. "I think we're ready for that."
Last year's starting quarterback, Stephen Collier, is now at Ohio State. But even with some star power gone, the Trojans return the majority of their starters on both sides of the ball. Even though they'll be playing in a new region, there's no shortage of experience under the lights.
"We feel like we've got as good of depth as we've ever had here, but it's just coming together as a team," said coach Dean Fabrizio on the challenges of preparing for the season.
Lee County will scrimmage against Monroe on Friday as they get ready for their season opener on August 23rd against Westover.
