Irwin County football is ready to build on their success from last season. Head Coach John Lindsey thinks he knows how to do that: execute.
Lindsey, in his third year with the program, has taken Irwin County from three wins in 2011 to seven wins in 2012. With lots of returning starters on both sides of the ball, expectations are high for the Indians.
But improving on last year's first round playoff exit will not be an easy task. Lindsey has emphasized executing the little things, particularly on defense.
"We want guys that fly around. Pursue the football," Lindsey said. "Getting to the football, and getting there with a bad attitude."
That kind of toughness and energy could take Irwin County a long way in Division 1-A. The players are buying in.
"I think it's the best year since Coach Lindsey's been here," senior D.J. Peterson said. "Start taking that winning mentality. We're ready to win."
