Still undefeated and on to the next one, the Monroe Tornadoes can add a trophy to the case at the U-Save It basketball tournament. Of course, the Tornadoes are hoping for a bigger prize coming their way in March in the GHSA basketball tournament.
In the quarterfinals Thursday, Monroe throttled Terrell County early for a 61-53 win. Tim White led the Tornadoes scoring 16 points. Terrell County's Tiavelle Stephens led the way for the Greenwave with 15.
Monroe faces Dougherty in a 7 PM semifinal Friday at Albany High.
Dougherty Defeats Webster County
The Dougherty Trojans extended their winning streak to three with a 57-33 win over Webster County. Michael Miller led the Trojans scoring eight in the lopsided victory. Webster County faces Manchester in the consolation bracket Friday at 4 PM.
Big Second Half Sparks Westover
Westover's T.J. Cromer and Kel Miller provided the highlights in a big second half as the Patriots moved past Manchester 75-65. Miller led the Patriots in scoring with 26 points. Westover faces Statesboro in the semis Friday tipping off at 8:30 PM.
Albany Falls to Statesboro
The Albany Indians stayed close in the fourth quarter, but lost their quarterfinal match up with Statesboro 64-55. Malik Dungee-Ali scored 12 points for the Indians. While senior Emmanul Byrd lit up the box score with six points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three blocks.
Albany will face Terrell County in the consolation bracket Friday at 5:30 PM.
