Starting Thursday Hugh Mills Stadium, in Albany became the host of the 2014 GISA State Track and Field Meet. After a long three days, the results are in and new state champions have been crowned. Last year for the AAA girls Bulloch Academy won with a total score of 108 and Deerfield-Windsor fell to 4th place. This year was a bit different; Deerfield-Windsor Lady Knights won state with a total score of 110, led by Tarah Young.
Young competed in five different events racking up 31 points for her teammates and also earning a new state record time in the 400 meter dash, with a time of 56.58.
As for the AAA boys, they earned a second place finish as a team for the second year in a row. The Knights were led by Matthew Fox who took first place in both the Discus and the Shot Put. Winning over all is the defending state champions Stratford Academy with a total of 124.
Down to AA girls, Sherwood Christian did not make a lot of noise as a team but Samantha Pappas competed in the 1600 and the 3200 earning 10 total points plus a third place finish in the 3200 meter run.
