Deerfield-Windsor hoops expects to make noise in the postseason

The 3-AAA region basketball will be held this weekend at Darton State, and Deerfield-Windsor's hoops teams expect to win.

The Knights play at 5:30 on Friday against Tiftarea Academy, while the Lady Knights tip off at 7:00 against Brookwood.

The boys have struggled recently, but longtime head coach Gordy Gruhl isn't too concerned. If Deerfield cleans up some of the little details, particularly on the defensive end, they'll be contenders in both the region and the state.

"There's a million and one little bitty things you try to tighten up," Gruhl said. "Things like that, when you go in the tournament, are gonna be really important."

The girls' team is 12-11, but 5-1 in the region. They enter the region tournament as the top seed, and coach Jeff Eubanks feels like his team is playing their best ball of the season.

"Defense is playing well, offense is getting better," Eubanks said. "I think we are peaking right at the right time."
