Deerfield Ditching the Win Streak

In 2012, the Deerfield-Windsor boys basketball team is undefeated. The Knights have rolled off 14 straight wins on their way to a region title. Now, as the state playoffs begin- none of those wins matter.

Deerfield starts a brand new season Thursday in search of a four game winning streak. Four more wins and the Knights would be staring at the GISA-AAA state basketball crown.

Round one may be the toughest for Deerfield during its playoff campaign. Deerfield faces Griffin Christian Thursday at 7 PM in Macon. The Crusaders are stocked full of talent in the starting line-up, but injuries dropped their state seeding.

Now, the team is healthy and will be a handful for the Knights.

"I'd much rather be talking about what an easy matchup it was, but it's not. It is what it is. When you get to this time of're going to have to play anyway," Knights Head Coach Gordy Gruhl said. "We're going to have to play awful good basketball in the first round to advance...if we don't do that...we'll get the baseballs and the golf clubs out and we'll get spring sports started."

The Deerfield-Windsor Lady Knights made quick work of their first round opponent Wednesday night. Deerfield defeated Tattnall Square 41-29. The Lady Knights play Westminster School of Augusta Friday at 8:30 PM.
