Deerfield-Windsor knew their GISA-AAA quarterfinal opponent very well. It showed on Saturday in a road sweep against Westfield.
The Knights finished off the Hornets with two, one-run victories, 7-6 and 3-2 in eight innings.
In game two, DWS pitcher Weston King kept his team in the game allowing two runs in a complete game effort. Deerfield trailed 2-1 heading to the bottom of the eighth, and capitalized on timely hits for the walk-off victory.
Coleman Butler just missed a game winning two-run home run, but settled for a tying double off the wall. Justin Glover hit the winning single to send Deerfield to the GISA semifinals for a third straight year.
The Knights host region-foe Brookwood in next Friday TMs semifinal match up. No times have been announced.
Tiftarea Falls in Extra Innings
Tiftarea knotted their GISA quarterfinal match up with Tattnall Square at one game a piece Friday. All eyes in Chula were set for the decisive finale, and they were forced to wait a while.
An hour rain delay slowed the pace, an extra innings marathon picked it back up.
After two full games, 14 total innings, Tiftarea didn TMt have enough to knock off Tattnall Square losing 6-2. Panthers pitcher Taylor Boothe threw 10 innings allowing two runs to the defending GISA-AAA State Champs.
Tiftarea, the Region 3-AAA champions, finished the season with a 28-5 record.
