Darton State Women Claim GCAA Title

The climb hasn't been easy for the Darton State College women's soccer team.

Early season struggles created plenty of doubt that this group of cavaliers was a championship caliber team, but those struggles weren't in sight Saturday.

Playing for another GCAA Championship against Georgia Perimeter, the Lady Cavaliers exploded for three goals in the first half en route to a 4-0 victory clinching a spot in the NJCAA National Championship.

"Starting at the beginning of the season, we weren't a team. We finally came together and beat Georgia Perimeter. We came in to this wanting to win and we just pulled through finally," Cavaliers Midfielder Shevah Rezaee said.

Now, there's no doubt this Cavaliers team is playing its best. The Darton State women have outscored their last nine opponents 49-5.

Chi Chi Hikita kicked off the scoring in the first five minutes of the game. Laura Nelson and Shenika Williams added goals throughout the period for the insurmountable 3-0 lead.

Coasting through the second half, Darton State scored its final goal late adding shine to their GCAA trophy.

Darton State travels to Melbourne, Florida for the NJCAA National Championship starting Nov.12.
