Darton soccer sweeps Middle Georgia

The men's and women's soccer teams at Darton State College swept Middle Georgia on Thursday night.

The women's team led 3-1 at halftime and kept pouring in the goals on the way to a 7-3 win. When the opponent cut the lead to 4-3, the Lady Cavaliers responded by adding three more.

Freshman Lyana Perez led the way with two goals and four assists and Brianna Lemerise added two more scores. Perez is now tied for second in goals in the NJCAA.

The win gave Darton a 6-0 record and made them 2-0 in conference play. They'll go on the road to face Georgia Military College on Sunday.

There wasn't as many goals on the men's side, but the game turned out to be a thriller.

Freshman Darwin Espinal broke a scoreless tie when he scored with 46 seconds remaining off of an assist from Jorge Chirinos.

A goal in the opening minutes was negated due to an offsides penalty. After that, Darton dominated possessions, but struggled to capitalize.

Their next game is on Sunday in Columbus against Georgia Military College.
