So many opportunities, so much time for standout Westover junior Trent Thompson.
Georgia, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, Clemson, South Florida, Western Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee. That's not just a map of the Southeast. Those are the current schools offering Thompson a football scholarship.
10 offers so far, but the list continues to grow just as quickly as the 6 foot 3 inch, 292 pound defensive lineman. Thompson has already added 20 pounds of muscle to his frame since the end of his sophomore season.
"Every week you could just see him getting betterâ|started making plays. Then, when the offseason came, he got the offer from Georgia, it just hit full force then," Westover head football coach Octavia Jones said.
UGA took notice first, offering Thompson on the spot. Then, Tennessee, Florida followed suit before the lineman could open a book on his junior year curriculum.
"In February, Georgia gave me my first offer. I was so happy, I was speechless after that. Then, the last week of school it just starting coming inâ|defensive coordinators giving me offers," Thompson said.
Thompson is the first call for nationally-acclaimed prospects. He's the top defensive tackle and a prestigious five-star recruit for the 2015 class. The first five-star recruit in the history of Westover football.
"I couldn't believe it. You've got to have love for the game. You just can't play it. You've got to love it too. You've got to eat, sleep, and weight room," Thompson said.
"We didn't have any idea that it was about to hit this fast. We knew the potential he had, but we didn't expect to hit this until his senior year. He's well ahead of schedule," Coach Jones said.
So, does Thompson have a current favorite? Georgia, Florida and Tennessee rank at the top, but he's going to take his time with a decision.
"It changes every time I make a visit. I'm just getting used to the recruiting process and so is my mom," Thompson said.
Mother knows best and so does Thompson.
