Continuity could lead to improved ASU offense

Albany State is planning a faster start in 2014, and the offense hopes to be a major reason why.

Offensive coordinator Steve Smith is back for his second season, along with starting quarterback Frank Rivers. A strong offseason led into a productive camp, and now the unit is ready build on their momentum from the second half of last season.

"Be consistent in running the ball, be consistent in passing the ball, be consistent in putting points up on the board," Smith said about ASU's offensive goals. "Doing what we have worked our tail off to do."

Rivers will have plenty of help. Veteran Victor Moli will lead a strong offensive line, and star Jessie Atkins is back at wideout. Smith also said the Rams have three backs they'll try to feed the ball to.

"Everybody wants the ball, so I'm excited to see what they're going to do when I get it to them," Rivers said.

ASU opens the season on Saturday at 7 P.M. at Valdosta State.
