Two of Southwest Georgia's best football recruits are going to college a semester early.
Lee County's Stephen Collier and Albany's Juwon Young finished up their credits and graduated earlier this month. Collier will play quarterback at Ohio State, while Young will head south to be a linebacker at Miami.
For both players, the decision made sense academically and athletically.
"The main reason was graduating early," Young said. "And I can, you know, probably get on the field early."
The ability to participate in offseason workouts and be a part of spring practice could make it easier for Collier and Young to get playing time as true freshmen.
Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio feels that Collier, a quarterback, will really benefit from the extra time in Columbus.
"He just felt the opportunity to get there early â" get started, go through spring practice â" was one that he couldn't pass up," Fabrizio said.
