A pair of post-Christmas high school basketball tournaments came to a close on Saturday in Southwest Georgia.
Tift County High School hosted their fourth annual McDonald's invitational over the weekend, but a couple of local teams struggled in their pool championship games. Colquitt County fell behind early and never recovered in a loss to Johnson-Savannah, 57-27. In Pool 2, the Valdosta Wildcats lost to Vidalia, 63-46. Tift County won their pool with a 75-48 victory over Mill Creek.
Colquitt County High concluded their girls' basketball Christmas shootout on Saturday, and a number of area teams participated. Fitzgerald snuck by Madison High from Florida, 54-49 and Albany lost big to Laney. Tift County held on to beat Newton 62-53. Monroe got back in the win column against Rickards, 61-50. In the nightcap, Colquitt County topped Crisp County by a score of 60-53.
