Buster Posey returns to Lee County
Leesburg's favorite baseball player returned home for a good cause on Thursday night.
Buster Posey, a former Lee County Trojan and current catcher for the San Francisco Giants, signed autographs and mingled with fans at Lee County middle school.
Posey's mother works as a teacher for the Lee County Transitional Learning Center. Signed memorabilia and equipment went to fans through a silent auction and a raffle. The proceeds went to the Learning Center.
"This is year number four, and it seems like it's growing a little bit each year," Posey said. "Hopefully, the money they raise from this, they're able to put to some great use and help the kids out here at school."
The 2012 National League MVP spends a good portion of the offseason in Lee County, working out and preparing for spring training. He sees plenty of familiar faces over the winter months.
"It's pretty neat," Posey said. "Seeing so many people that I knew from the time I was five years old, it's good to get a chance to see them all again."
