We have reached the end of high school basketball season where it's all or nothing if you want to keep your post-season dreams alive as Saturday concluded round one of the GHSA basketball state tournament.
Beginning with the boys, Westover, Pelham, and Tift County all earned themselves the number one seed entering the state tournament and more importantly cashing in a "W."
Westover won 60-51 over Richmond-Academy, Pelham over Screven County 76-18, and finally Tift County beating Tri-Cities 70-49. Worth County is a number two seed and getting the chance to host their first game against Butler with a win 71-68. Although Crisp County found themselves with a number three spot and on the road, they still cashed in a victory over Liberty 56-53.
Over for the girls, Monroe and Pelham are number one seeds and interestingly enough earning themselves for a round two game. Monroe Lady Tornadoes beat Richmond-Academy 60-53 and the undefeated Pelham Lady Hornets also won 66-22 over Josey. Biggest surprise came to us from the Tift County girls who were on the road and a number four seed against the number one ranked Westlake. The Lady Blue Devils won 59-58 and the Westover Lady Patriots also won 52-36.
