Albany State's men's and women's basketball teams will open their conference schedule on Thursday night at home against Kentucky State.
The women play at 5:30 and the men play at 7:30. It is community night at HPER gym, so all fans get in free.
The men went 3-5 in non-conference games, but coach Chris Cameron is pleased with how the team has progressed. If the Rams can execute better and improve on the defensive end, Cameron expects them to make some noise in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
"Everything is a learning experience," Cameron said, referring to a couple of close losses in the first half of the season.
On the women's side, the Lady Rams were playing great basketball before the break as they cruised out to a 5-2 record. Coach Robert Skinner likes the consistency, discipline, and execution of his team and he thinks it could be a sign of good things to come.
"I believe that we have a long way to go and a lot to prove," Skinner said. "But at the same time, we're gonna have to be dealt with each and every night."
