ASU women set for a new season

The Albany State women's basketball season is right around the corner.

The Golden Rams have been practicing every morning at 4:45 A.M. under head coach Robert Skinner. They've been trying to get back to the fundamentals and limit the mistakes that plagued them last year.

Two starters return from 2012-2013, point guard Mecca Frost and power forward Kadeemya Cooper. Skinner thinks that experience, and a mix of talented new players, could mean the Lady Rams are ready to make a run.

But in the early part of the season, it's all about establishing an identity on the court.

"We do get up and down the court pretty good," Skinner said. "But we want to be patient and we want to get the best shot we can possibly get."

ASU opens up the season this Friday at the S.I.A.C. Sunshine Classic against the Florida Institute of Technology.
