If the Albany State football team wanted another SIAC title, the Golden Rams understood the final four regular season games would decide their fate.
In the first year of a conference title game that will match an eastern division winner against the west, the Golden Rams faced their first and toughest eastern opponent on Saturday in Morehouse College.
Albany State took control of the division with a 25-15 win over the Morehouse Maroon Tigers on Saturday at the Albany State Coliseum.
ASU quarterback Stanley Jennings threw two touchdown passes late in the second quarter, and the Golden Ram defense held the SIAC's leading rusher, David Carter, to 45 yards on the ground.
Jennings notched his first touchdown on a 33-yard pass to receiver Octavius Staton with four minutes remaining in the second quarter, but Jennings wasn't finished. The quarterback moved ASU's lead to 19-2 with a 22-yard heave to Ronnie Tubbs with 45 seconds left in the half.
Morehouse running back David Carter scored the lone touchdown for the Maroon Tigers, but it didn't come until 10:55 left in the fourth quarter.
ASU faces Clark-Atlanta in Waycross next Saturday for the South Georgia Heritage Classic.
