The last few seasons have been a struggle for the Albany State basketball team. But with practice underway, it's a new season and renewed optimism for Chris Cameron and the Rams heading into the 2013-2014 season.
Cameron said his program went out and recruited transfers to add some toughness and athleticism. He hopes newcomers Joseph Williams, Jamorris Gaines, Larry Bullock, and Demetri Wheeler provide the Golden Rams with a boost on the glass and in transition. They'll also be led by some key contributors from last season, such as guard James Lodman, Jr. and forward Justin Udi.
"We're going to be up-tempo," Cameron said. "We have athleticism, we have bigs that can run the floor, we have perimeter players and guards that can handle the ball and push the ball in transition."
Cameron and his players think ASU can push for a conference championship. But right now, the focus remains on the early-season practice routine.
"We've been going real hard, preparing ourselves for the season," Lodman, Jr. said. "Everybody's going hard, everybody's encouraging everybody to do good. So I think we should be pretty good."
Albany State will scrimmage on November 5th and go on the road for their first game against Xavier University on November 9th.
