ASU baseball is a family affair

The Latner brothers have always been on the same team. Now, they're both key members of the Albany State baseball program.

The two are similar but different. Robert is a big, strong senior catcher who hits in the middle of the lineup. Ryan's a faster, top of the order type who plays mostly second base.

"Both of them are gritty guys," said ASU coach Ken Conner. "Hard working, kinda country boys, and both bring a lot of enthusiasm."

In all likelihood, this is the last chance they'll have to play baseball together. The Latners are just trying to make the best of it.

"This is a one time experience," Robert said. "We're gonna live it out to the fullest and try to get a championship."

For the brothers, the only thing sweeter than playing together would be winning an SIAC title together.

"He's never gotten one, and I've never gotten one in baseball," Ryan said. "So I think we both want the same thing."
