The Americus-Sumter Football team has struggled as of lately. The Panthers have been through different coaches and haven't seen the post season since 2011. For this Americus team that is all changing after the hire of new Head Coach Dexter Dawson.

Dawson said, "I am excited to return to the sidelines and coach the game I love and once played."

Coach Dawson has been working for Americus-Sumter for some time as the assistant principal, but now is the athletic director and new head football coach. The Panthers have some work to do as they prepare for the playoffs. On defense they are young and inexperienced all over the place after replacing eight players.

On the offensive side of the ball they do have a couple weapons. On offense they have senior running back Wesley Fields who has already committed to Middle Tennessee State and senior wide receiver Eric Davis who has a lot of playing experience. On the O-line, the Panthers return three of their starting five from last season.

Dawson said, "We are a young team, but these guys have been willing to learn and they are having fun doing it."

Americus-Sumter plays at home this Friday against Macon County.
