Albany Tech Earning Big Gains from Sophomore

The Albany Tech men's basketball team has been up and down through the first third of their season, but there's been one Titan that's stayed consistent for the squad.

Sophomore forward Jamorris Gaines has been paying off big for the Titans, and they'll need him on Friday in an important region contest. Currently, the Worth County product is averaging 17 points and seven rebounds through the first 10 games.

The forward is ranked third in the conference in points, but ranks much higher for the Titans in leadership. Gaines' call to duty stemmed from a summer conversation with Titans Head Coach Sylvester Patterson.

"He told me in the offseason that I was going to have to step up this year and be a leader since I was one of the starters that came back," Gaines said.

While the forward has stepped up to the challenge, he still prefers to lead by example for his younger teammates.

"I hope they just go hardâ|take the examples of all that I did, and go on with their career," Gaines said.

Albany Tech hosts Chattahoochee Tech on Friday aiming to move their overall and conference record above .500. The women start at 3:30 with the men to follow from HPER Gym.
