Number 100 will have to wait a little bit longer.
Mike White's wins milestone at Albany State proved to be quite elusive on Saturday with a backbreaking loss to North Greenville. After trailing 23-6 in the third quarter, the Golden Rams battled back to take a one point lead, only to lose on a last minute field goal.
The good came with the bad in the season opener. Wide receiver Jessie Atkins caught eleven balls and had two touchdowns, but the coaches felt like the Rams ran the ball poorly. Linebacker Larry Whitfield had seven tackles, but Coach White said the run defense failed to hold down North Greenville throughout the night.
ASU is back on the practice field this week, trying to right the wrongs of last week with defending conference championship Tuskegee coming to town on Saturday night. Coach White maintains they'll use the first game of the season as a building block.
"That's what this game showed us â" where we got to tighten up," White said. "It showed us some of the things that we got to improve on, especially to get ready for a tough team this week."
