The FBI says a fugitive wanted for a murder in Georgia 22 years ago has been captured in El Salvador.

The arrest of 51-year-old Hector Ulises Garay was announced Wednesday by David LeValley, who heads the FBI office in Atlanta.

Garay is suspected of killing Adalberto Salines during an attempted robbery in his Norcross home on Jan. 21, 1996. The FBI got a warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution 10 days later after Garay was believed to have left the country.

An FBI task force finally tracked him down and flew him back Tuesday to Atlanta. He's being held in the Gwinnett County jail.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Garay had an attorney who could comment on his arrest.
