A judge sentenced a mother to 65 years in prison for killing her 11-year-old daughter and placing the child's body in a freezer.

WFLA reports that 34-year-old Keishanna Thomas accepted a plea deal to serve the prison sentence instead of facing life in prison on murder and child abuse charges.

“I think this is the most horrific child death I was ever involved in,” prosecutor Arthur Brown told WFLA.

In court on Wednesday, Thomas told the judge she accepted the plea deal to spare her other children the experience of a trial.

“We felt this was a good disposition. It saved the remaining children who would’ve been witnesses in the case the trauma of having to relive an absolutely horrific series of events,” Brown said. “[This will] prevent her from having access to children for the remainder of her life.”

The investigation began in 2015, when authorities arrested Thomas for not cooperating with police who were searching for her missing daughter Janiya.

According to WFLA, Thomas dropped off a locked freezer at her grandmother's house just days before. A relative opened the freezer and found the girl's body.

Investigators say Thomas drowned Janiya in the bathroom after starving her. Police tell WFLA Thomas kept the body in the freezer and placed it in the dining room for almost a year.

The trial for Thomas prior to the deal was scheduled for Aug. 21.
