The United States Marine Corps celebrated its 238th birthday on Wednesday. Marines all across the country took part in ceremonies, including those at the Marine Corps Logistics Base right here in Albany.

MCLB Albany took part in a time-honored ceremony that has been a tradition for nearly the entire two and a half decades of the Corps existence â" and not much has changed over time.

The ceremony, which took place outside of base headquarters, included the ceremonial cutting of the cake, a letter from the top ranking U.S. Marine official, and a history of the Marines in which corps members dressed in uniforms representing every era of the corps itself.

The ceremony was followed by a luncheon and a ball.
