A 16-year-old Lee County High School student was killed in an accident on Highway 82 late Tuesday night after she pulled out in front of a tractor trailer.

Georgia State Patrol confirms 16-year-old Madison Stokes is the victim in the accident that happened shortly after 10 p.m.

GSP says Stokes pulled her 2008 Honda Civic out of Story Acres and was struck in the driver's-side-door by 39-year-old Johhny Hall. Stokes - who was wearing a seatbelt - was killed on impact.

Lee County High School says they are offering grief counseling to the friends and classmates of Stokes to deal with the accident.

Principal Kevin Dowling says although education is important, sometimes school isn't about pen and paper and passing a test; right now, Dowling says it's about getting through this situation and learning a little about life.

"She's one of our students, we're like a family here so we feel the loss as well and prayers and thoughts go out to her family members," said Dowling.

He also says the school plans on giving Stokes's family some time before they reach out to let her parents know the school is there for them.
