Worth County accident claims a life
The Georgia State Patrol confirms an accident at the 600 block of Red Rock Road Thursday night involving pedestrians struck by a vehicle, claiming the life of 27-year-old Contessa Brown.
GSP says that a Dodge pick-up truck was traveling on Red Rock around a curve where Brown and her four children were walking down the roadway. Brown was struck and pronounced dead on scene.
Brown's 9-year-old daughter, Shanderia Butler, described the scene, "all my baby brother's stroller pieces just flew up in the air, and then umm, I heard a big ol' bumping noise, and then he just let down the window and started yelling, somebody call 911."
A seven-year-old female child was transported to Macon in critical condition.
An infant inside a carriage was reported ejected, but is doing fine along with two other children that were taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Henry Reid, was not charged because Brown was reportedly walking in the road at the time of the accident.
An eye witness stated that he himself had to swerve to avoid brown moments before the collision.
GSP reports that speed was not a factor in the accident, but Brown's mother feels otherwise. "I want the truth; I don't know who was in the wrong and who was in the right, but I want the truth, I want the truth for her sake," said Lina Brown.
