Winter weather stops flights at SWGA Regional Airport

First UpdateThe Southwest Georgia Regional Airport posted this update to their Facebook page:The airfield is opening at 3:00pm now that the ice has melted. We are still showing Delta's flight #5351 to arrive on time at 8:36pm. If the airfield freezes again tonight, we may have delays tomorrow morning, but we are hoping tomorrow we will be back to normal!Initial StoryThe Southwest Georgia Regional Airport has cancelled quite a few flights due to winter weather.

Airport Director Yvette Aehle tells FOX 31 News the outgoing flights scheduled at Noon and 5:00 p.m. Tuesday were cancelled, as well as the 8:30 p.m. incoming flight.

She adds the first outbound flight for Wednesday at 6:00 a.m. is cancelled, but if the runway is in good condition, they may allow planes in or out by Noon.

"We're expecting that thin layer of ice to be on the runway and obviously we don't want airplanes here if there's any kind of threat that they might slide off."

Aehle adds they are keeping their Facebook page updated with all the latest flight information.
