Why is hunger rate so high in Dougherty County?
FOX 31 reported Wednesday on hunger issues here in Southwest Georgia.
With so many food pantries here, why does Dougherty County have one the highest food insecurity rates in the state at 26.6 percent?
Several of the counties surrounding Dougherty are low, but we asked the question: Why is the number so high in Dougherty and so low in the other counties?
"That's a hard question," Major Kelly English with Salvation Army Albany said. "It's a hard question. When you see the influx of people, of course, you begin to ask that. When you get down to the individual person, everyone has a different reason."
Volunteers at other food pantries say they think some people may not know about all the resources offered.
