After hearing chatter in the community about Albany State University giving tickets out of their jurisdiction, FOX 31 looked into what exactly their jurisdiction is and where they can and can't give tickets.
Lt. Guess with ASU Police says their jurisdiction is the entire campus and 500 yards away in each direction. They are allowed to give tickets and make arrests in their jurisdiction just like any other cop. Guess says there's confusion in the public on what campus police can and can't do but they go through the same training that an officer with the Albany Police Department would.
FOX 31 also hit the streets to find out what the community thinks and one person said they think ASU Police should be able to give tickets wherever, even if that means outside of their jurisdiction. But another resident of Albany said ASU Police should just stick to campus.
