      Weekend tornadoes lead to road closures in Lanier and Lowndes


      Due to the weekend's tornadoes, the Georgia Department of Transportation is closing some roads and lanes for clean-up efforts.

      A road closure will affect S.R. 122 between S.R. 125/Walkers Crossing in Lowndes County and Lakeland will be temporarily closed on March 6th starting at 8 a.m.

      A lane closure will affect S.R. 11/S.R. 37 between S.R. 122 Connector and Pine Street in Lakeland on March 6th starting at 9 a.m. A pilot vehicle will lead motorists through this work zone. This closure will be lifted Tuesday evening.

      A lane closure will affect S.R. 125/Bemiss Road between S.R. 122 and Moody Air Force Base in Lowndes County. It will be temporarily closed on March 6th starting at 10:30 a.m. A pilot vehicle will lead motorists through this work zone.

      A road closure will affect S.R. 122 Connector between S.R. 11/S.R. 37 and S.R. 122 in Lanier County starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning on March 7th. A pilot vehicle will lead motorists through this work zone. This closure will be in place until 8 p.m Wednesday evening. This route has been reopened.

      Lakeland-Lanier EMA Director John Pruitt says the highway department should have the roads cleaned up by Wednesday. He says other debris in the city and Lanier County should be cleaned up by the late part of this week or early next week.
