Warwick residents demand adequate fire coverage

The room was packed at Thursday night's Worth County Commission Meeting.

Residents were there to voice their opinion on what they're calling a lack of fire coverage where they live, in North Worth County. One resident presented the commission with a petition to the county to provide them with the needed services. The petition has gotten over 200 signatures so far.

A man who lives around Lake Blackshear says he pays for his own water, he pays for his own garbage pick up which he says is rarely picked up, and he says there is little to no police protection. On top of those things he says he is paying an excessive amount in insurance because there isn't adequate fire coverage.

FOX 31 has reported before that in this area the fire department's ISO rating is a 10, the highest rating there is. The volunteer fire station in Warwick, which is the closest station to these residents, is not manned at all times. We were told by the Worth County EMA Director then that if volunteers in Warwick can't get to work, residents will have to wait 10 to 15 minutes for help.
