Warrants issued for Crisp County High teacher
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 17:40:45 GMT —
Warrants have been issued on a Crisp County teacher after authorities say he was having sexual relations with a student.
35-year-old Gerome Morgan resigned at noon on Friday after officials issued the warrants for his arrest, but he is not currently in custody.
Crisp County Chief Deputy Billy Hancock says Morgan is not in the area at the time but officials say they're now focusing all of their efforts on locating and arresting him.
Crisp County Schools Superintendent Dr. Rhonda Hayes says the schools have been working closely with authorities to ensure the safety of the students.
Chief Deputy Hancock says this is an ongoing investigation and they're still working to build the case against Morgan, but they know the relationship between Morgan and the student was consensual.
Morgan was working as a teacher in the Agricultural Science and Technology Department at the Crisp County High School.
Morgan faces two counts of sexual assault for the misconduct, which officials began investigating based off information received by school officials on Monday that was immediately turned over to police.
