As the temperature keeps dropping, one Tift County Commissioner is trying to keep the community warm.
Commissioner Melissa Chevers is collecting jackets, coats and sweaters for school age children to be given out throughout the community.
Last year she collected 1200 coats.
This year, she's hoping for 1500.
Chevers says, "coats are very expensive, now with food stamps being cut people have to make a choice. Do I stay warm? Or do I eat? So I want to help ease that burden."
If you would like to donate a coat, contact Chevers at (229) 326-0241.
