Verizon representatives say they are launching 4G LTE services in Albany on October 18th.
Officials here in Albany say the fiber lines are already being installed.
"They already had five locations approved and we just took it before the city commission for them to approve three more locations. As I understand it from the fiber company, this is going to allow Verizon to have 4 G capabilities," says Bruce Maples, Director of Engineering for the City of Albany.
When the service is turned on, Verizon customers will have access to the nation's fastest 4G network.
The new service can be used to surf the web, and stream music with speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G.
Verizon officials say adding Albany to their 4G LTE network puts them past their goal of 400 coverage markets by the end of 2012."With our 4G LTE network, customers can take advantage of the speed offered by our 4G LTE devices and the innovative solutions that leverage 4G LTE technology to enhance connectivity," said Jonathan Lecompte, President - Georgia/Alabama Region for Verizon wireless. "Our aggressive 4G LTE deployment strategy has enabled us to provide customers with the best wireless data experience possible, and we will continue to strengthen and expand our network to provide consistently outstanding 4G LTE speeds."
