Valdosta starts phase two of Smoke Testing Program

The city of Valdosta is now beginning phase two of its Smoke Testing Program that started in January.

This phase includes an area of commercial water customers in the west region of the city near the Valdosta Mall. This will run Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

It's part of an effort to smoke test the city's entire sanitary sewer collection system over the next four years.

The process will help the city identify and eliminate sources of stormwater overflow and grease blockages. You may see the smoke this week but know it's non-toxic, non-staining and odorless.

The city says it's unlikely for smoke to enter a building but should it happen, you're advised to open all doors and windows.
