Thursday was a busy morning for the Albany Fire Department after two vacant homes caught fire.

Around 6:00 a house at 1302 East Society was engulfed in heavy flames and smoke.

They say the fire started on the west side of the house.

At the same time - firefighters responded to a fire on East Second Avenue

Officials say that fire also started on the west side of the house.

Assistant Chief Rubin Jordan with the Albany Fire Department says, "we know if a house is vacant it can't start a fire by itself, so just be vigilante in your neighborhood and pay attention who is in your neighborhood and make sure everybody is aware of everything that's going on."

Jordan adds that both fires are currently under investigation, and people should keep a close eye on their neighborhood.
