It's an innovative approach on fighting crime; some officers with the Albany Police Department are ditching the patrol cars and using ATV's to patrol some of the city's most high crime volume areas.

Officers say the ATV's will allow them to go where the patrol cars can't go, such as back alleys and through yards.

Officials with APD also say having the ATV's are a good way to get more in touch with the community.

Captain Bryan Lavoie with the Albany Police Department says, "by being on the ATVs, people in the community will feel more comfortable approaching us and giving us information that might help us solve different crimes."

Captain Lavoie adds that officers will be patrolling on the ATV's day and night.
