Summer is near and many people will be outdoors relaxing, exercising, and walking their dogs. But if you don't keep your dog on a leash it'll cost you.
If a bite victim requires stitches, the dog is classified as "dangerous" and Animal Control takes possession of it, and it costs big bucks to get it back says Lee County Animal Control Officer Jackie Grigg.
"I've classified probably four dogs as "dangerous dogs" and the people did not have the money to get it back and I did have to euthanize it because the owner wasn't responsible for keeping the animal in their yard," said Grigg.
Meanwhile, Grigg says if you're being chased by a dog, do not run away. You should stand still and don't look the dog in its eyes.
